Family

Last night, my son and I went to a car cruise that we enjoy. He is a car-fanatic, and really enjoys this one in particular. It is in Wexford, PA. Too bad this is the last season for it. Fingers crossed they will be relocating next year. There are rumors, but I guess we really won't know for sure until it is announced. It's the Starlihte Car Cruise. I really think it is the largest one in the area, and it is a nice combination of older models and new sporty cars. My son likes both.
I don't know a darned thing about cars, but I know what I like. And anything that looks like it's out of the Fast and the Furious I like. I also like Corvettes. I am not sure what the name of the version is that I like, I just know that I like it.
We walked around for a good hour as he named every single make, model and year, as well as facts about the model or the engine. Things I didn't even know that he knew. Color me impressed.
Sometimes I forget how grown up he is. Time sure has flown. When I was laid off from my job, he was eight years old, just my little mini-me. We spent every single day for the rest of that summer at the local pool. Now he is fourteen. Yikes.
There are very few things we can do together that he truly enjoys. Car cruises are one of those things.
Last summer we went to this one every single Friday, just him and me, since hubby was working until nine. It was free entertainment, and something he looked forward to. This summer for whatever reason, and a lot of it was the weather, it was harder for us to get to. This was the first one this season for us.
If you get the chance to check them out next year, if in fact they do relocate, you should. Like I said we walked around for a good hour just looking at cars. There were that many that it took an hour just to see them all. And I think there was an additional lot that we didn't look at (I never knew there was this other lot-I don't know if it was there last year or not). Then we stood at the exit and watched the cars leave for an hour and a half.
Why watch the cars leave? (I'm sure you're asking)
Well, there is a stretch of road before they get to a stop light. The cruisers put the pedal to the floor, spin tires and do burnouts (or whatever, lol) when they get the chance. My son was in his element. He took it all in, and smiled the entire time. If you've ever been around a fourteen year old boy, you'd know those moments are hard to come by, and it's the absolute greatest thing in the world to witness.
A teenage boy truly happy.
And all I had to do was drive him to Wexford.
It just took a little of my time, a little gas money and a little toll money to make it happen.
And I'd do it again
I would do it every week if I could. Maybe next summer. If it's that easy to make a kid happy, why not?
Like I've said, I'm a Fast and Furious fanatic, so I enjoy looking at the newer cars. I enjoy dreaming of which one I would love to have someday if I could. The white and black Corvette is that car.
If you ever get to go check this out, be sure to look at the food trucks too. I always pass one with Shredded Pork, and I always want it. (I love shredded pork and there's no good place to get it around here) But I'm also a slob and uncoordinated. So walking and eating something like that gives me anxiety. I WILL be wearing it, there's no doubt. So I always pass on getting it. 😞
But there's a ton of good looking and smelling food available.
It is a family event. Young people, older people, kids, dogs, everyone enjoys it.
And if you own a hot rod or cruiser you could opt to be part of it!
Maybe someday I'll be sitting at these as part of the big "cruiser family" with my son and his car. Doesn't sound too far fetched, except for the fact that I doubt he'd want his old mother there too. But then again, he enjoys going to them with me now. So... stranger things have happened!

Here's some photos of the cars that I like to look at and dream over.
Teen enjoying himself with car enthusiasts buddies.
